The Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps

by Vivian Rose
"The Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps" is as hilarious
a comedy as the first "Nutty Professor". Eddie Murphy is back
as the very overweight scientist Sherman Klump. Unfortunately,
his slim and comical alter ego, Buddy Love, is also back. But
this movie focuses more on Sherman's family - and their lack of
good decorum at the table. In this film, Janet Jackson is Klump's
love interest - Jada Pinkett Smith was his love interest in the
first movie, and I kind of liked her better. Jackson's acting
skills seemed a little thin in a few scenes. But I guess it doesn't
matter - dumb comedies don't get Oscar nominations for acting
anyway. And this is still very laughable material.
All in all, "The Nutty Professor" is a howlingly
funny comedy. However, it probably appeals most to people who
enjoyed the first film. Also, fans of gross bathroom humor will
have a good time at this movie. I thought "The Nutty Professor
2" was hysterical. Just a warning - if deplorable table manners
and general rudeness bother you, stay away from this film. In
one particularly comical scene, Buddy Love - whose new incarnation
is part dog- spreads newspaper on a bathroom floor. In other words,
he's planning to go to the bathroom the way dogs do. I heard someone
behind me say in a disgusted voice, "I don't believe what I'm
seeing." This struck me as ironic, because everyone knows it's
rude to talk loudly during a movie. I should have yelled at him
to shut up. Anyway, I thought the bathroom scene was a wonderful
example of the side-splitting comedy "The Nutty Professor 2" has
to offer.
Rating: PG-13 for crude humor and sex-related
material
