THE DISCOVERY- alaska, 1980
Kyle Powel was walking through the woods, somewhere in Alaska,
carrying hammers, picks, and other tools. Kyle was a new paleontologist
in Alaska, and there have been rumors going on that there are
lots of dinosaur fossils, and other fossils too, near a mountain
in Alaska. Kyle was very excited when he heard the news, and got
on the subject right away.
About 6 miles later, Kyle was at his destination, but when he
got there, where was he going to excavate for fossils? He started
digging in one spot on the side of the mountain, which looked
like a pretty good spot. It took him a while until he found something,
but what he found was definitely not a dinosaur fossil........
When he struck his pick the 3rd time on the mountain side, it
made a quarter sized hole that showed a darkness inside the mountain!
He didn't know what hit him at first, but after a few seconds
later, he realized the mountain had a cave in it. He realized
this, because he had seen such a site before on television. But
he didn't know how large it was, but was soon going to find out.
He set explosives around where he thought the rest of the cave
would be, lit the match, and then ran like hell! Once he jumped
behind a couple of rocks, the explosives immediately went off
sending rocks and snow everywhere! But as the explosion calmed
down a bit, the cave that he saw was much bigger than he'd expected.
"What the hell!" were his words, as he saw a huge cave that
was almost half the size of the mountain! He was surprised yet
in a way, scared at the cave, which to him looked like a huge
hole in the mountain. He wondered if he should explore the huge
cave or not. But for scientific reasoning, he thought that it
would be best if he did explore it. Hey, he might find something
in there. "But.........how did all of this snow cover this huge
cave?!!," Kyle said aloud. He then got all of his tools and started
venturing into the cave............
Kyle was amazed for what he saw in the cave. Sure, he didn't
see any fossils yet, but it was certainly amazing. Dozens of stalactites
dangled above his head.
The cave seemed to go on for miles and miles into the mountain
with lots of twists and turns, he could get lost easily. But all
he could think of was this: the cave was absolutely amazing.
Soon he was confronted by three different passages. Since he
didn't know where the three passages led, he figured any would
be fine to take. So, he took the middle passage.
As he entered it, it looked pretty much the same as the rest
of the cave that he saw, except for one thing that left his mouth
hanging. There were eggs, hundreds of them! He didn't know what
to think, he just stood there, absent minded for a while, until
he examined the eggs more closely .......
It seemed that the eggs were arranged in nests dug up from the
ground, like how ostriches do. He then picked up an egg and held
it firmly. It was very large, and oval shape, like most eggs.
But for some reason, it seemed a little bit heavier and larger
than an ostrich egg would be. Then the egg suddenly started to
move in his hands and began hatching!
First the egg shell started to crack all over, then it broke
at what seemed to be the top. He then saw a large eye peering
through the place that broke on the egg. It seemed reptilic, like
a lizard's eye. But then the eye vanished and the egg cracked
some more. Before he knew it, he saw a reptilic head pop out of
the egg. "What the hell is this! It..............looks like............
.......a.....dinosaur!! ", Kyle said with a leap of excitement!
"But, how could this be possible?!!" He didn't know what to think.
But then, a few seconds later, the dinosaur, or what he thought
was a dinosaur, was completely out of the egg.
He didn't know what kind of dinosaur it was, but by looking
at it's teeth, he knew it had to be a carnivore. But when he put
the little dinosaur down, he saw something that frightened him.
All of the dinosaurs have hatched out of their eggs as well! It
was like a zoo in there - all kinds of juvenile dinosaurs, herbivore
and carnivore, land and air, all kinds! But what really frightened
him was that there were so many! And the fact that they were staring
at him very coldly, like as if he were an enemy, or prey..........
Kyle then started to run out of the cave as fast as he could,
but as he got out of the passage he entered, he noticed that the
dinosaurs were now chasing him, but he also saw more dinosaurs
coming out of the other 2 passages! It was a huge rampage!
Finally he got out, hoping that the dinosaurs gave up on chasing
him. But he was wrong, the swarm of dinosaurs exited out of the
cave like water dripping from a faucet. He then ran as fast as
he could into the woods, with the dinosaurs still behind, but
he noticed that the herbivores stopped and munched on some plants
and that there were flying dinosaurs above him. But what ever
was happening around him, he just kept on running and running....
He then started to zig zag so it would confuse the dinosaurs,
and it worked. Some dinosaurs went into a different part of the
woods. "Man, these things are stupid," Kyle said aloud, but he
was wrong, dead wrong.
When he turned around the corner, he saw about 29 baby dinosaurs
in front of him. He quickly turned around,.... there were dinosaurs
there too. He then turned left, then right, and still saw a number
of dinosaurs. They then started to close in on him, getting so
close to him that he almost fell down because of the impact. Then
one of the dinosaurs pounced on top of him, knocking him on the
ground, and soon the others did as well, biting him with hard
bites, even though they had baby teeth, it still hurt. Screams
of terror were coming out of Kyle's mouth as he soon was being
eaten alive, slowly, bit by bit.......
